Memos

During our overlapping internships at Artspeak (Vancouver, BC), Nick and I worked closely with the galleries library and archives; physically sorting and moving books and publications, updating spreadsheets and index cards, and reading texts in the collection. During this physical labour we sent voice memos back and forth, highlighting fragments of text that made its way into our individual research practices. After compiling these memos, we ran them through speech-to-text software to create transcriptions of the voice notes, then, working from the unedited transcriptions, we began building a new text. Some of the lines are direct quotations, some are paraphrased, and others are offhand remarks from the voice memos. Over time and through various methods of articulation/re-articulation, these lines have been relocated and have begun drifting away from/or alongside their original references in this text that plays with the mutability of citation over time and the slippage between quotation and verbal rearticulation.
